01/ Handyman
What does a handyman do?
A handyman is a skilled worker who specializes in tackling your list of home projects. You can hire a handyman to do odd jobs and small repairs such as installing equipment and fixtures, replacing faulty parts, repairing leaky or squeaky stuff, performing general maintenance, assembling furniture, clearing out rubbish and junk, painting walls, demolishing old closets, repairing drywall, installing kitchen cabinets, handling basic carpentry or electrical work, planting shrubs, and performing other small jobs and home improvements.
02/ Licensed and Insured
How to hire a great handyman
When looking for a great handyman, try to find someone you can develop an ongoing relationship with. It's great to have a skilled handyman you can trust to repair or upgrade things at your house as needed. Whether you lack the skills or the free time to make progress on your to-do list, a great handyman makes your home better. When looking for the right person for the job, here is a basic checklist:
-
Are they licensed and insured: Ask your potential handyman to provide you with proof that they are insured before letting them do any type of work in your house. Hopefully nothing will go wrong, but if it does you as the homeowner should not be the one footing the bill. A reputable handyman will be registered with the state of Pennsylvania as a home improvement contractor and that registration requires the verification of insurance coverage.
-
Discuss rates: Find out ahead of time whether your future handyman charges by the hour or will quote you a flat rate.
-
Discuss payment options: Do they only accept cash or checks? Do they accept credit cards? If you hire a handyman for a multi-day project, they may request a deposit, but be wary of anyone who wants you to pay in full before work starts or before work is completed.
-
Gut check the estimate: People who provide drastically lower estimates may not be reputable and tend to disappear. Trustworthy operations require standard rates to remain in business.
-
Talk about job timelines: For a bigger project discuss when the project will start, what time they will arrive for work each day, approximately how many hours of work they will do per day and when they expect to finish. Whether the job will take only a few hours or several weeks, make sure you agree on a timeline you're both happy with.
03/ Pricing
Flat rate pricing
I price each of my jobs at a flat rate. I will look at your job and give you a price to complete it based on how much time it should take, not how long it actually takes. Charging a flat rate provides many advantages for you as the customer. You should know how much you are going to pay for a job beforehand. I don't believe in charging by the hour since as a professional I should know how long the job will take me, so there's no reason for you not to know what the total bill will be before starting your job. If I charged by the hour, what incentive would I have to be efficient? Flat rate pricing encourages me to get your job done in a timely manner.
04/ Guarantee
All work comes with a one year guarantee
All work is guaranteed for one year from the date of invoice during which time we will repair, free of charge, any defects in workmanship performed based on the terms of the agreement with you.
